Microsoft's Kinect Hands-on

Microsoft's Kinect Hands-on

The X360 is all set to add a new dimension to gaming and you have to experience it to believe it

Finally! After watching countless videos and reading about the Kinect online, we had a chance to experience it in person for the very first time today, thanks to Microsoft. For all those living under a rock, Kinect (previously known as Project Natal) is the latest accessory for the Xbox 360 which is made up of a three cameras that track your every move in a 3D space and the same action is mimicked on screen within the game. The beauty of the Kinect is that is doesn't require any form of a controller like the Wii or the Playstation Move, your entire body itself acts as the controller which leads to true 'interactive' and 'immersive' gaming.

We went for the demo without any pre-conceived notions of what to expect and although we had read about it and seen the videos, it just doesn't capture its essence. You have to experience it for yourself and believe me, no amount of words or videos can describe the feeling when you win a 200m hurdle against your friend. Yes, you have to spot-jog and jump over the hurdles in reality to complete the race. We also managed to catch up with Mr. Jaspreet Bindra who heads the division for India and had a little one on one chat about the Kinect and the Xbox 360 scene in India which we'll cover in the detailed article.

Unfortunately we cannot show you the pictures snapped by the Kinect while we were trying out different demos as it was still running an early build of games and thank god for that cause the device somehow manages to capture the weirdest of poses (funny for those watching of course) that you would not want to go public with (though you can publish them directly to Facebook). We really cannot wait for the Kinect to launch as after experiencing it first hand, it's definitely going to be the game changer for the Xbox 360.
